Stereotyping

Stereotyping is bad, mean, wrong, and rude because it can hurt people's feelings and makes people feel different when they are not.  Never say something that's not true and never judge a book by its cover.

An example of stereotyping is ‘All Chinese people work at fish and chip shops.’ I disagree because I have seen other people not just Chinese people work at fish and chip shops.  I have evidence that not all Chinese people work at fish and chip shops because at my Fish and chip shop a Canadian person works at there. Generally some chinese people work at fish and chips shops but I have seen different cultures work at fish and chips shops too.

A second example is ‘Boys have short hair and girls have long hair.’
I disagree because I have seen boys with longer hair than girls, and I have seen girls with shorter hair than boys. I have evidence that girls can have short hair and boys can have long hair because I have seen a boy with long hair on the news and on my kitchen rules.  I have seen a girl with short hair outside the doctors when I went there.

A third example is ‘Girls play netball and boys play football.’ I disagree because when I go to netball I have seen boys play. I have played against a netball team with a boy in it. I have seen girls play and they were really good.

Overall I think stereotyping  is mean, rude, and wrong. It can hurt people's feelings and can make them cry. Don't judge a book by its cover!
